Brenda & Calvin Lawson

 

Brenda Hutchinson Lawson was born in Amelia, VA. to John and Ferne Hutchinson. She has four younger brothers. Brenda has two children and her son has given her a grandson. Brenda has always lived in Amelia, VA.and graduated from Amelia High School. She worked as a successful sales person for a Richmond, VA based vending company until August 2002. Brenda's family has been in the bluegrass music business for over 26 years. They promote the popular Central Virginia Bluegrass Festival (two a year) at the Amelia Family Campgrounds in Amelia, VA. Brenda is the emcee for the Central Virginia Bluegrass Festival. In addition, she has also performed as emcee for Deaton Entertainment's Talent Showcase at the 2002 IBMA Awards Show in Louisville, KY, and Cabin Fever Pickin' Party (2003) in Hampton, VA. Also, she emceed the Jarman (starring Rhonda Vincent) and Amelia (starring IIIrd Tyme Out) Bluegrass Concerts (2003) presented by Lawson Entertainment.

Calvin Lawson was born and reared in Winston-Salem, NC. to Rete and Vermell Lawson. Calvin has two brothers and two sisters. He attended Mineral Springs High School in Winston-Salem , NC earning status as an All-State basketball player. Calvin attend Pfeiffer College on a basketball grant-in aid, majoring in education. Later he earned a BS degree in Economics and Business from High Point Universityin High Point, N.C. After college, he worked for a Fortune Five Hundred Company as Internal Audit Department Manager (with domestic and international responsibilities). Calvin moved to Amelia after early retirement where he met and married Brenda. Assisting Brenda and her family with the Central Virginia Bluegrass Festivals was his induction in the bluegrass music business.

Where It all Started

Brenda and Calvin were invited by WXGI to air a radio show on WXGI 950 AM in Richmond, VA. So, in April 2002, they started the "Sweet Brenda and Him" radio show for the listening pleasure of the bluegrass community. Each Sunday morning, they play the best in Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel music from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Recently, they started Lawson Entertainment, a business for promoting bluegrass events and talent. Lawson Entertainment has promoted shows featuring the following bluegrass artists: Rhonda Vincent & Rage, IIIRD Tyme Out, James King, the Lewis Family, Low Profile, Michelle Nixon & Drive, the Bluegrass Brothers, Appalachian Express, and Jay Kaczor & Thirty Aught-Six.

Also, Brenda and Calvin continue to assist the Hutchinson Family with the Central Virginia Bluegrass Festivals in May and August. As time permits, Brenda and Calvin attend as many Bluegrass events as possible through out Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and West Virginia; in order to promote and support bluegrass music.
